SLE supportive of transparency of landownership

Press Release

Transparency of landownership is an important step in the relationship between owners of land and communities, Scottish Land & Estates said today.

The rural business organisation, which represents farms and estates across Scotland, said the Register of Persons Holding a Controlled Interest – which will become publicly accessible from Friday 1 April 2022 – would assist the visibility of ownership.

Stephen Young, Head of Policy at SLE, said: “Scottish Land & Estates and its members have been very supportive of the desire to see increased transparency of ownership. We launched our Landowners’ Commitment in 2014 which included a commitment to be open and visible. Since then, our members have been at the forefront of assisting the Scottish Government achieve its goal of completing the Land Register by 2024.

"The new Register of Persons Holding a Controlled Interest is an important step in ensuring that owners, whether they be public, private, charities or communities, are visible to communities they are a part of."

More information about the register is available on the Registers of Scotland website.
