SLE statement on latest EU withdrawal votePress Release
Scottish Land & Estates has issued the following statement after today’s vote at Westminster on the EU Withdrawal Bill.
Sarah-Jane Laing, Executive Director at Scottish Land & Estates, said: “Scottish rural business has much in common with the rest of the country in wanting to see the light at the end of the tunnel in the Brexit process.
“Today’s further rejection of the Withdrawal Agreement keeps every option on the table, from ‘No Deal’ to remaining in the EU, but still gives no certainty on how land-based businesses move forward in the coming months. If further indicative votes are to be held next week then we will continue to urge politicians on behalf of our members to recognise the needs of the rural economy in their decision-making.
“We understand that significant sector change is coming, whatever the nature of our future relationship is with the European Union. We want to work towards a brighter future for Scottish agriculture and land-based business but need certainty in order to plan how that will take shape.”
