Scottish Land & Estates Welcomes Announcement of Agriculture Reform Implementation Oversight Board

General News

Following the important work of the Farmer-led Groups, Scottish Land and Estates welcomes Wednesday’s announcement by Scottish Government creating the Agriculture Reform Implementation Oversight Board (ARIOB).

The ARIOB will be co-chaired by Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Islands Mairi Gougeon, and Martin Kennedy, NFU Scotland President. The group will support the Scottish Government in shaping the future of agricultural policy.

Clear direction is much needed at this critical time for the industry, and the announcement commits the ARIOB to develop a preliminary package of funded measures for agreement by COP 26, to be implemented by spring 2022.

In addition, a national policy consultation has also been published. ‘Agricultural Transition in Scotland: first steps towards our national policy’ is open until 17 November 2021.

We very much look forward to working with the group to develop a new agricultural policy which will meet the needs of land managers, whilst addressing the climate and biodiversity crises.

We have a fantastic podcast with some of the members of the farmer-led groups talking about agriculture policy. Listen now.
