On Tuesday, 26 February, 25 SLE Members and guests met at Dunninald Estate, near Montrose to learn of the importance of master planning when it comes to the development of a redundant B Listed steading block.

Hosted by Mary Stansfeld (Dunninald Estate) and led by Paul Fretwell (@rchitects Scotland) attendees came together to see for themselves the development which will ultimately result in its conversion to form 7 dwellings.

Aimed at landowners, property managers and built heritage professionals, this informal event was an opportunity for SLE Members to speak with those directly involved in the development and to view first-hand the processes and techniques that are being deployed to ensure this building is fit for modern living.

Discussion topics included the importance of master planning, re-instating redundant buildings, historic buildings versus modern living, navigating the planning process, the use of appropriate materials and the role of the Architect.
