The first NE Walk & Talk of 2019General News
On 22 May, SLE members travelled from as far afield as Kirriemuir, Blair Atholl and Perth to join our first NE Walk & Talk on Private Water Supplies. Hosted by The MacRobert Trust and in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, the event provided an opportunity to speak with those directly involved in the monitoring and management of private water supplies in the Aberdeenshire area, as well as highlighting the approach taken by the Trust. The contractor, HighWater, provided valuable input to the outdoor session, discussing the challenges presented during the upgrade of one particular PWS site on the estate.
As with all good Walk & Talks, there was animated discussion about the particular challenges facing owners of Private Water Supplies in the NE; new regulation, infrastructure and cost issues and the potential repeat of the water shortages experienced in 2018.
More Walk & Talks to come...
The next NE Walk & Talk will be held at Grandhome Estate on 11 July on the topic of rural security. As well as discussing issues of rural crime in the NE, this event will introduce Secured By Design - a police initiative that aims to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings to provide safe places to live, work, and visit. The event will highlight some of the measures landowners and managers can take to reduce or eliminate the risk of crime and anti-social behaviour in the physical environment, as well as providing practical demonstrations of products and technologies that will make your business and communities more secure.
There are more events in the pipeline for later in 2019 including a lowland deer event in October looking at the need for deer management on the urban fringes and how to assess the evidence and levels of damage in a woodland habitat.
