Delgatie Castle is a small charitable trust that is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Castle and Estate. Castle is open as a visitor attraction, an award winning tea room serving home bakes and lunches. Self Catering accommodation both in the Castle and the grounds. Estate is open all year round (except for a 2 week break over Xmas). We hold weddings and small events such as birthdays, baby showers and hen parties, and our vintage afternoon teas have a wonderful reputation for these events. A small team of volunteers and staff run the estate.
As a small charity with no external funding, we have had to ensure our business resilience since Captain Hay of Delgatie passed away in 1997 and the trust came into being. The pandemic has added a new challenge to that. We have manged that by using the time closed to carry out some repairs and maintenance to the Castle and holiday accommodation where possible. we have also diversified into our takeaway afternoon tea boxes. This started for Mother's day 2020 and we continued this for events such as fathers day and Easter. But also just at weekends. we have also provided whole cakes for customers by order to collect by no contact collection at the Castle, which has brought in revenue but has also allowed our customers both existing and new to have something wonderful to look forward to over such a difficult time. Since we have been able to reopen we have also continue to offer takeaway boxes and also takeaway tea/coffee and cakes when some people prefer still not to sit in a tea room or want to enjoy the Castle grounds. This was not something we had offered before. We have also opened another space as an additional tea room in order not to turn away customers, as we cannot take the same capacity in our tearoom. this has worked very well so far and we will continue to this going forward.
