Agri Tourism & Diversification

The team at Errichel in Aberfeldy are passionate about their business and have worked tirelessly to make Errichel something rather special.

Husband and wife Becky & Paul Newman and their team have created a haven in highland Perthshire offering excellent holiday accommodation in rooms within the main building, and self-catering holiday cottages.

When you walk into Reception, it is quite apparent that quality is at the heart of this enterprise. The facilities are first class, the extension where the restaurant is is beautiful and has the most amazing views. Paul, a trained chef, runs the restaurant “Thyme at Errichel” which is open for dinner from Wednesday – Saturdays during the main season. He also caters for private dining, special occasions, parties and weddings and outside catering including Highland Safaris. In addition, he runs a seasonal Cook School showcasing menus incorporating seasonal produce cooked with international flair.

They have built two houses, completed a barn conversion, extended the main house and refurbished three holiday cottages. The accommodation is fabulous and they have green credentials too with a district Biomass Boiler and Solar panels.

They have on the farm wild deer, Shetland cattle, Large Black pigs, goats, rare breed ducks, hens and geese and Highland ponies too. All the stock are housed close to the holiday accommodation so families can enjoy being close to all sorts of wildlife – a form of Agri tourism.

All this work requires manpower and although Errichel sits on only 182Ha, they have ten on the payroll, creating employment in a very rural part of Perthshire.

The Newmans always try to use their own produce where they can and not just in the restaurant, but they also have a shop which promotes their own jams, chutneys and preserves, meat boxes, home grown beef Biltong and cured salmon. The online shop will go live in April 2017.

They host Whisky Tasting groups, get involved with Tayfest Family Festival every October, conduct farm tours, have Beavers & Cubs for farm visits and do cookie decorating classes for children. Their hard work ethic has helped them create an oasis at Errichel and by making every square inch of their asset sweat, they have achieved a sound, strong business model.
