Our virtual Conversation on the Future of Rural Businesses in the South of Scotland on Friday 30 July is a must attend for all members who have an interest in rural businesses! With many variables currently, including covid recovery, future rural support and our response to climate change, there is a need for clear thinking and guidance for all businesses. We are fortunate to have two great speakers who will share their insight in to the future of rural business in South Scotland.

Professor Russel Griggs, South of Scotland Enterprise Chair, who has experience in a wide range of business settings as well as support agencies will share the views of the enterprise company and their role in making the South of Scotland thrive. Also joining us will be  David Seed, Managing Director from FBR Seed, who has experience of large scale farming, land agency and many other rural businesses will discuss what he sees as the needs of business in the area. Both will be online ready to answer any questions you want answered.

Professor Russel Griggs

Professor Russel Griggs OBE

Chair of South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE)

Chair, South of Scotland Enterprise - Professor Russel Griggs OBE also led the team who created SOSE. Russel Chairs the Scottish Government’s independent Regulatory Review Group who advise and work on better regulation in Scotland; is Chair of Scottish Mines Restoration Trust, is a Board member and senior Independent Director on the oversight Board for the Comptroller and Auditor General for the States of Jersey and is a Board member of Lenlyn Holdings Ltd. He is honorary Professor of the University of Glasgow, was an associate Professor at Boston University and a member of the board of the Business School at Georgia Southern University. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2008 for services to Scottish industry. 


David Seed


Managing Director

Previously Managing Director of Seed & Co, David assumed the role Managing Director of FBR Seed Ltd when FBR Ltd & Seed & Co. merged on 1 July 2019. David fulfils a wide and varied role within the company coordinating professional staff, liaising with clients and focussing on business development opportunities for the firm. As well as being a Member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a Registered Valuer, an AMC Agent and a Fellow of the Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV), David plays an integral role on a number of steering group panels and policy making committees.

Away from the company, David operates a large arable contracting business spanning the Borders, Lothians & Central Scotland.
