Hamish owns and runs Pitlour in Fife, a mixed farming, woodland, and sporting estate managed with particular emphasis on restoration - and sustainable conservation of - historic buildings and landscape, and on wildlife friendly farming and forestry practices. Hamish was educated at Glasgow Academy and University of Stirling, where he is a lay member of Court. He is currently a non-executive director of Artemis Investment Management. He is married to Plum, and has four children and three step-children.
Hamish has over 30 years boardroom experience, primarily with listed groups. He has worked in the UK and overseas, building - and occasionally founding - businesses, in full time, part-time, and non-executive roles in a wide variety of industries including consumer branded goods, commercial radio and print media, manufacturing, retail, hotels, business to business brands, oil and gas exploration and production, and lending and investment banking.
Past chairmanships include Artemis Investment Management and Royal Doulton, and past deputy chairmanships include Cairn Energy, British Polythene Industries, and Scottish Radio Holdings. Hamish has also served as a school governor and as a trustee of an architectural conservation charity.
