A National Economic Assessment for Scottish Land & Estates

September – November 2013

Scottish Land & Estates has carried out a great deal of work to raise awareness of the substantial contribution that our 2,500 members, large and small, make to Scotland’s economy, as well as advocating the need for policy development to be based upon substantive facts and evidence.  In order to do this we need to continually update and improve the information that we hold on our members’ current and potential activities.

It is important that as many members as possible participate in this effort.

The importance of having robust and up-to-date information has been particularly underlined in more recent months, where we are continually required to quantify and substantiate the social, environmental and economic contribution that our members make to the rural communities in which they operate and to Scotland as a whole.

As part of our efforts in this regard, we have commissioned an independent research consortium involving Rural Solutions and Scotland’s Rural University College (SRUC) to undertake impartial research on the economic contribution of landowners across Scotland.

We are conducting this survey in conjunction with Cairngorms National Park, who are surveying their landowning members at the same time.
