Boiler Scrappage Scheme

The Scottish Government has recently announced a new round of funding for a boiler scrappage scheme for private sector landlords.

The Energy Saving Scotland Private Sector Landlords Boiler Scrappage Scheme offers private sector landlords £400 towards the cost of upgrading inefficient boilers to an Energy Saving Trust Recommended boiler  in each of their rented properties.

This scheme proved very successful last year, which saw private landlords upgrading the heating systems in over 400 of their properties.

Landlords upgrading their boiler can achieve:

  • Higher EPC ( Energy Performance Certificate) ratings, which could make their properties easier to let
  • Reduced CO2 emissions from their properties
  • Lower energy bills for their tenants leading to reduced rent arrears and defaults
  • Reduced levels of fuel poverty experienced by their tenants.
As funding is limited and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, private landlords should act now. Landlords can get more information about the scheme and how to apply on the Energy Saving Trust website or by calling their local Energy Saving Scotland advice centre on 0800 512 012.
