Drivers Put at Risk by Theft of Cattle Grid

Traditionally, it is lead on the roof of buildings that thieves target for a quick profit.

As metal prices soar, criminals have also been turning their attention to copper piping, with war memorials, churches and ambulance stations all falling victim to a spate of thefts.

Now a cattle grid on the road to an island croft has become the latest target of metal thieves after the steel was stolen near Portree on Skye.

The theft came as HM Revenue & Customs launched a taskforce to pursue scrap metal thieves and those who sell to them in Scotland.
