Visit to Luss Estates


SLE members from all over met on Tuesday 13 March to visit the fabulous Luss Estates, joint winner of Scottish Land & Estates Helping it Happen Rural Business Award 2017.

The visit started with a tour of the 1MW run hydro at Glen Douglas - Luss Estates, Chief Executive, Simon Miller was on hand to provide information and answer questions then it was back to the Loch Lomond Arms Hotel for refreshments and an overview of Luss Estates and its various businesses, topics also discussed farming, forestry, fishing and field sports this was followed by a tour of the impressive environmentally friendly 199Kw biomass boiler which the hotel sources all its heating and hot water from. Members then had lunch in the hotel’s function suite after which Simon Miller and his team gave an excellent tour round Luss village to view the Filling Station, the general store, the clan shop, Luss smokehouse and Seafood bar etc.  Members had the chance to hear about the challenges and opportunities around developing the various enterprises.


 It was a very fascinating and informative visit for all and gave many attendees food for thought!
