Visit to Charlesfield Anaerobic Digestion Plant

Anaerobic Digestion at Charlesfield - Tuesday 21st February 2018

SLE members from all over met on Wednesday 21 February to visit the £10 million Anaerobic Digestion plant at Charlesfield St Boswells, winner of the Iver Salvesen Green Business award at Scottish Land & Estates Helping it Happen Awards ceremony in 2017.

Members were taken around the plant by host SLE Member Trevor Jackson and Spyros Iliakis where they had the chance to hear about the challenges and opportunities around developing such a plant.  In addition Phil Davies from Iona Capital, Andrew Linehan from Lindsay's and John Mitchell from Anderson Strathern were on hand to provide information and answer questions.    Topics discussed included, contractual agreements with local farmers who supply the plant with raw materials, technical issues around pumping gas back into the grid and finance.

It was a very fascinating and informative visit for all and gave many attendees food for thought!

Special thanks go to Trevor Jackson for hosting and to all involved for their valuable time and expertise.
