Ministers meet for crucial CAP talks

Ministers from the four UK nations and DEFRA met in London yesterday (25 October) to discuss a range of rural issues with a focus on the forthcoming CAP and CFP negotiations. Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead put Scotland's case to DEFRA Secretary of State Caroline Spelman and ministers from the other nations.

This was the first meeting for the ministers in relation to the proposals currently on the table to reform the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Mr Lochhead said that with each devolved administration having different needs, it was important to that the UK Government took into account Scotland's policy on the key issues facing our farmers and fishermen during the critical months ahead. He urged UK Ministers to work together to agree a negotiating approach that gives equal value to key issues for each nation. For further details...
