The different views on EU CAP reform proposals were made very clear as member states discussed them for the first time since they were published last week. Speaking at the end of the EU Agrifish Council meeting in Luxembourg Richard Lochhead said:
"The battle lines have been drawn, but as these negotiations get underway it is abundantly clear there is a long road ahead of us.
"Among the key themes emerging from the first day of discussion were simplification and greening, including the proposal to put aside up to 7 percent of land. And I was especially pleased that a number of countries mentioned the importance of food production, which is vital to Scotland.”
Richard Lochhead is to discuss CAP with other UK ministers to when they meet in London next week
