Update on Corran Ferry

Scottish Land & Estates contacted Highland Council to understand the issues and timeframes involved in resuming the Coran Ferry Service. The service was suspended after a steering fault led to the ferry contacting rock last weekend. We are concerned the absence of this service is damaging for businesses as well as creating a serious delay in getting emergency vehicles to the area if required. A remote Operated Survey took place on the hull and a German engineer arrived on site on Wednesday. It is understood significant damage was not found but some repair work is required.

The back-up vessel is also out of action due to a fault being detected at its annual refit in March and a part has to be manufactured. Highland Council is considering alternatives including a passenger only service until the ferry can be reinstated.
