New enterprise agency

Economy Secretary Keith Brown has announced the creation of a new enterprise agency which will be tasked with meeting the "distinctive economic needs" of the south of Scotland when it becomes fully operational in 2020.  The new agency will effectively take over the role of Scottish Enterprise in the south of the country.
Scottish Enterprise will continue to provide support and advice for businesses in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the rest of the Central Belt, and the Highlands & Islands Enterprise will continue in this role for northern Scotland.
A strategic board will be set up this autumn to oversee the three entities. The new agency is one of a number of measures in the final report from an enterprise and skills review, with others including a £500,000 college innovation fund to support Scotland's colleges to work with businesses.
