Review of National Parks across Scotland

Earlier this week a debate was held in Scottish Parliament on the establishment of new National Parks in Scotland. The motion, in the name of Finlay Carson asked the Parliament to recognise the value of Scotland’s outstanding natural beauty and calls on the Scottish Government to conduct a review of National Parks and consider the establishment of new ones.
The Cabinet Secretary in her conclusion recognised the enthusiasm and desire to build on the success of existing National Parks in Scotland but did not believe resources could be diverted from other priority areas for the creation of new National Parks – at present.
It was also acknowledged that National Park status is just one of many landscape designations that can help boost the economic opportunities of an area.
