Public Bodies Lowland Deer Management – SGP Event

The recent deer review highlighted the importance of different approaches required for the management of lowland deer. This week SNH hosted a Sharing Good Practice event aimed at Local Authorities and other public bodies who own or manage land where deer are present. The purpose of the day was to enable discussion of management approaches and provide a range of information in relation to lowland deer and their management, compliance with the Deer Code, development and adoption of Best Practice, practical delivery and delivery of public interest.

There were a number of informative presentations throughout the day from SNH, FCS, FES, Transport Scotland and Dick Playfair of LDNS. It was particularly interesting to see the different approaches to deer management being taken by Local Authorities and the challenges they face in terms of resourcing and dealing with public views, which in some areas are very strong and opposing.

The presentations from the day will be available to view at www.snh.gov.uk under news & events
