Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee – Deer Management in Scotland

On Tuesday the ECCLR committee held a public evidence session with a panel of academics to discuss the recently published Deer Management in Scotland – SNH Report to Scottish Government.  In attendance were Professor Steve Albon, Emeritus Fellow, James Hutton Institute; Dr Duncan Halley, Researcher, Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (via video conference); Professor David McCracken, Head of Hill & Mountain Research Centre, Scotland's Rural College and Professor Rory Putman, Visiting Professor at the Institute of Biodiversity Animal Health and Comparative Medicine, University of Glasgow.

A key message dominating the evidence session was the necessity for focus to be on trend management and effects on habitat as opposed to counts.

The official report of this meeting is due for publication by 6pm on the 20th January and can be viewed here
