Scottish Land & Estates was invited to attend a workshop on ‘Extreme weather and resilience of Scotland’s rural industries’ – a piece of research being undertaken by The James Hutton Institute on behalf of the Scottish Government. The research, being undertaken over the course of the next two years, will seek to inform decision makers concerning extreme weather in the context of rural industries.
The UK Meteorological Office attended the workshop and provided details on climate extremes, modelling as well as scope for forecasting. With that background information, discussions focused on modelling, how best to translate meteorological findings into action on the ground, risks to forestry and agriculture, and what people wanted to see as a result of the research. Scottish Land & Estates will have continued involvement in this research.
