Anne Gray attended a meeting in London this week which explored issues arising from Brexit for the farming and food industry. Trade agreements were once again highlighted as the over-riding factor which is needed to bring clarity and certainty to the sector.
The meeting heard from a number of contributors across the farming and food supply chain. It explored new markets and the value/importance of continuing with existing markets. Labour was also discussed in some detail, particularly our current reliance on labour from other parts of the EU. The sustainability of food production was also considered and the extent to which the supply chain is paying, or is willing to pay, the true cost of sustainable production was touch upon.
