Highlands Forestry Strategy Meeting

The Highland Council has decided to refresh their 2006 Highland Forest and Woodland Strategy and has commissioned a consultancy team to deliver it. Their aims are to highlight the region’s contribution to the Scotgov national forestry policy, update with the Council’s Supplementary Guidance ‘Trees, Woodlands and Development (2013), promote the role and opportunities for forests and woodlands within the evolving national policy context and provide the tools required for targeting funding for woodland expansion.

Stakeholders, including private sector reps and contractors were called to meet with the consultants in Dingwall in early November to consider an issues paper with a series of questions arranged to help produce a context for the work.  Eg Consistency with other regional strategies in relation to SG guidance ‘the right tree in the right place’ (2013), Complementarity with THC supplementary guidance, connectivity between trees, woodlands and forests and development, Brexit, Scottish Forestry Strategy, Transport/Road network, Tree/Forest health, Supply Chain and skills/capacity of the workforce.
