Crown Estates and Scottish Land & Estates take lead on Natural Capital project

Along with the Crown Estates, we are taking a lead on a project to introduce natural capital accounting to land-based businesses in Scotland.  At a meeting held today, we outlined our project proposal to a small consortium of potential partners in the project.  The proposal is for the trial implementation of natural capital accounting on one or more selected farms/estates in Scotland.  Natural capital accounting ensures that businesses across the entire supply chain are not simply measured on financial profit, but on whether or not the natural assets they rely on are in profit or show a deficit.  The approach has the potential to revolutionise the way that farm and estate businesses and their products are valued.
