The search has begun for the 2016 Scottish Tree of the Year, an annual search for the nation’s best loved tree which celebrates community connections, stories and history associated with Scotland’s best loved trees.

The competition is organised by the Woodland Trust Scotland and supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery and runs alongside sister competitions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Six trees are the finalist in Scotland’s Tree of the Year. Click here to view all shortlisted trees and place your vote before 5pm on 9 October.

The winning tree will benefit from a ‘Tree LC’ care grant of £1,000, all runner-up trees which receive more than 1,000 votes will be eligible for a grant of £500.

The winner will be announced at a reception at the Scottish Parliament in October, and the tree will go on to be Scotland’s representative in the European Tree of the Year contest
