Commitment to rural Scotland in cabinet reshuffle welcomed by Scottish Land & Estates

Scottish Land & Estates said today the Scottish Government had shown a welcome commitment to addressing the issues facing rural Scotland in its cabinet reshuffle today.

David Johnstone, chairman of Scottish Land & Estates, said: "In reorganising the rural affairs and other portfolios today, the First Minister has demonstrated a welcome commitment to the importance of the rural economy and the challenges it faces.

"There is a real need and a widespread commitment to maximise what can be produced from the natural capital of Scotland whilst at the same time nurturing that natural capital and the cabinet positions announced today indicates the Scottish Government recognises the importance of moving this forward. Our members are involved in a wide range of activities such as agriculture, forestry, environment, tourism, housing and energy.

"We are pleased to see these and issues such as broadband delivery and transport links given priority. We congratulate all the new Cabinet Secretaries on their appointments and will work constructively with them and their departments to help deliver widespread benefit in rural Scotland."
