Pollinator Strategy for Scotland

Scottish Natural Heritage is consulting on a Pollinator Strategy for Scotland.  Scottish Land & Estate’s response was submitted earlier this week and can be found on our website.  We are on the whole supportive of the Strategy although we would like to see more done around education and awareness-raising, particularly around easy targets like encouraging pollinator friendly gardens rather than paved areas in urban settings.  We also recognise it is important for farmers and other land managers to understand the vital role pollinators play and for policy objectives to be fully aligned in this regard.  The Strategy for example highlights that the push towards greater tree cover may come at the expense of flower rich grassland and moorland which is ideal pollinator habitat.    To read our full response click here...
