Perth and Argyll Regional Forestry Forum is looking for six new members to help guide the work of Forestry Commission Scotland’s local Conservancy team.
The Conservancy’s work aims to increase the contribution of forestry to rural development, increase the provision of public benefits from forestry and increase public awareness of the importance of woodlands within the area.
The voluntary and unpaid Forum role is suited to people with an interest in the promotion and development of forestry, woodlands and trees, and is a great opportunity to participate in policy development and delivery of the aims of the Scottish Forestry Strategy.
Cameron Maxwell, Forestry Commission Scotland Conservator for Perth and Argyll, said;
“We’re responsible for promoting and regulating all aspects of forestry and woodland management across the Perth & Argyll area.
“We work closely with partners on the delivery of the Scottish Government’s Scottish Forestry Strategy, which focusses on forestry's contribution to climate change, timber production and use, tree health, forest related tourism, community development, and health and wellbeing.
“Woodland creation through the Forestry Grant Scheme to help deliver the Scottish Government’s climate change targets is a particularly important area of our work.
“It’s a wide-ranging remit so we’re keen to hear from as wide a range of people as possible.”
Applications are particularly welcome from people with expertise, experience and enthusiasm in;
- Farming and forestry,
- environment and cultural heritage, the
- forest industries and the economy,
- forest tourism (cultural, activity based, wildlife),
- Urban woodlands
- Community forestry.
Forum posts are voluntary and unpaid, but are eligible for travel expenses. The forum meets four times a year and is a combination of indoor and outdoor field visits to various sites throughout the Conservancy looking at a variety of Forestry issues as well as areas of high importance and interest.
The closing date for applications is 29 December 2015.
