Rottal Estate achieves Wildlife Estates Scotland Accreditation

Owner Dee Ward was given the WES certificate for Rottal Estate in Glen Clova, Angus by Graeme Dey MSP at a Parliamentary reception at Holyrood on Tuesday evening.  The estate has been brought back through more than a decade of hard work and investment, and is well regarded in the area for its innovative best practice approach to management.

Rottal Estates produced a detailed and comprehensive application, setting out all the work being undertaken by Dee Ward's team in Glen Clova. Amongst bird species, Rottal hosts  large numbers of waders including curlew, lapwing, golden plover, oyster catcher, redshank and snipe, as well as good numbers of black grouse. Amongst birds of prey, the estate has recorded the presence of buzzard, red kite, merlin, golden eagle, sea eagle, osprey, kestrel, sparrow hawk, hen harrier, marsh harrier and short eared owl. Pine marten have been sighted, there is a good population of red squirrels, and otters are present in the catchment.
