Housing Minister Raises Immigration Check Concerns

 

Housing Minister, Margaret Burgess, has written to the UK Government Immigration Minister to express concerns about the requirements for landlords to check the immigration status of prospective tenants which was introduced in the Immigration Act. The provisions are currently not in force except in pilot areas in England. Ms Burgess expresses concern that the requirements could lead to migrants being pushed into illegal accommodation and that the requirements could be rolled out in Scotland without consulting the Scottish Parliament.
