Aberdeenshire Council is developing a Forestry and Woodland Strategy for the Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan area. The strategy will be Supplementary Guidance to the 2016 Local Development Plan and will cover the area of Aberdeenshire out with Cairngorms National Park.
The new strategy will replace the Forest and Woodland Strategy for Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City produced in 2005. It will provide a high level overview of woodland management and creation issues and opportunities within the Local Development Plan area. It will set broad objectives for developing the multiple benefits associated with forestry and woodlands including spatially identifying preferred areas for new woodland creation in the region. It will reflect national policy but focus on the key regional issues. It will be a significant document with influence on rural businesses, communities and the environment. The development of the strategy is being guided by the Forestry Commission Scotland document The Right Tree in the Right Place.
Aberdeenshire Council is seeking the views of those with an interest in forestry and woodlands in Aberdeenshire so as to shape the strategy it will produce. The deadline for responses is Wednesday 14th October 2015.

Consultation on the draft strategy will follow early in 2016.
