Public Sector Boards – Quality through Diversity - Save the Date

Inverness/Online 14th September Glasgow 8th October
Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), in collaboration with Changing the Chemistry and Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), is running two free events to encourage more people, particularly women, to consider applying for board positions in the public sector generally and HIE and SNH specifically. HIE and SNH will be advertising for new Board members in the autumn with appointments to be taken up for an initial three year term from spring 2016. These events will be held early evening Inverness on Monday 14th September (with a webcast option planned) and Glasgow on Thursday 8th October.
You may never have considered a board position before – but your experience may be invaluable. Public sector boards are very keen to increase the diversity of their non-executive directors so this may be a great opportunity for you.
Topics covered will include:
  • what public sector boards do, with a specific focus on HIE and SNH
  • HIE’s role in delivering Scotland’s Economic Strategy
  • what being a non-executive director entails
  • the public appointments process
  • the support and help available to you should you wish to consider such a position.
Speakers will include Professor Lorne Crerar, Chair of HIE a Board member from SNH,representatives from the Scottish Government Public Appointments team, and Changing the Chemistry.
Event dates: Monday 14th September 2015 and Thursday 8th October
Location: Lochardil House Hotel Inverness/Online (14th Sept); Teacher Building, St Enoch Square Glasgow (8th Oct)
Timing: 6.00pm-8.45pm (with talks from HIE, SNH, Public Appointments and Changing the Chemistry and opportunities to network and talk to representatives from before and after).
