While the Scottish Parliament is progressing a Succession Bill to make technical amendments to the laws of succession, the Scottish Government is already looking further ahead and has launched a consultation on the implementation of the remaining recommendations proposed by the Scottish Law Commission.
The consultation launched today (Friday 26 June) addresses some fundamental issues that will be critically important to members and Scottish Land & Estates will be making a full and robust response.
Changes to succession form part of the land reform agenda but are being taken forward separately. This consultation forms part of the process whereby the Scottish Government will seek views prior to introducing another Succession Bill in the next Parliament.
