Scottish Land & Estates and Wildlife Estates Scotland were delighted to support the European Landowners Organisation on their stand at the EU Green Week event in Brussels this week.
Donald Inch and Ross Macleod visited Brussels this week to represent Scottish Land & Estates and WES at EU Green Week.
Based on the European Landowners Organisation stand, this provided an extremely useful opportunity for us to learn about the increasing recognition in Europe about the value of private land management, and the growth of initiatives to support this work.
At the same time, the event gave WES a great platform to showcase information snapshots from the first annual report, due to be launched at the GWCT Scottish Game Fair next month. There was considerable interest amongst EU officials and delegates alike about the report as an evidence base for good practice, and how WES might be further encouraged.
Meeting Scotland's Environment Minister, Aileen Mcleod, Ross and Donald were able to discuss the contribution made by private land managers in Scotland, the role of WES in demonstrating links to public benefits and the maintenance of landscape scale conservation.
