Sustainable Moorland Management

Representatives from Wildlife Estates Scotland and Scottish Land & Estates met with Ian Ross, Chairman of SNH last Friday at Allargue Estate to discuss sustainable moorland management issues.

Adrian and Rosey Walker from Purdey award-winning and WES accredited Allargue Estate hosted a meeting with Ian Ross, Chairman of SNH, Ross Macleod from WES and Scottish Land & Estates’ Chief Executive, Doug McAdam, to talk through the practicalities of upland management. The meeting also enabled everyone to get out on the ground and look at local management aspects. Guided by Head keeper Neil Brown, they saw an impressive variety of wildlife including Black Grouse, Curlews, Lapwings and Mountain Hares. Discussion ranged over many of the issues that are under consideration in the current SNH SAC review of sustainable moorland management. WES and Scottish Land & Estates gave both written and oral evidence to the review and look forward to the final report
