Argyll members of Scottish Land & Estates met at Ardkinglas House, 17 August. National and Regional Chairs, Luke Borwick, Gordon Robertson and Daye Tucker joined them for lunch together with members of the Policy Team and Regional Management who provided updates on CAP reform, Regional activities and Member Services. Argyll Forest Conservator, Syd House gave a presentation on the opportunities arising from the revised Argyll Forestry Strategy. Luke Borwick outlined national priorities for the Association and advised that he had met Argyll’s new MSP and Cabinet Secretary for Education, Michael Russell earlier in the day to discuss various issues including Mr Russell’s desire to meet with members at an early date. Members were also advised of two events to be held in Argyll in the coming months, on 6 October there will be a Demonstration Day held in Appin examining small scale tourist accommodation and on December 2nd, the Highlands & Islands Regional Committee will meet in Dunstaffnage for the first time. Their regular meeting will be the prologue to a Members’ debate on how Rural Scotland might cope if Scottish Independence becomes a reality.
