North Coast 500 tourist route

The North Coast 500 (NC500) is the name of the new, unique route designed to bring together the best of the North Highlands’ in one iconic touring experience. The route follows the stunning coastal edges from Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, round the infamous west coast upwards towards the north west and down the east coast from Britain’s most northerly town; John O’Groats in just over 500 miles.
The North Coast 500 was created in response to numerous key tourism trends, such as the increasing consumer desire for ‘authentic experiences’, the growth of adventure based tourism and the increasing importance of sustainability.
The route is the most recent project from local organisation, the North Highland Initiative which was established in 2005 in an effort to promote economic growth in the North Highlands.
