The Scottish Government is preparing to make Scottish Beef Scheme payments (estimated to be around end-March / beginning April 2015) and are asking that all claimants double check their claim in an effort to avoid having to impose penalties.
As the European rules stand, a claimant can ask to have animals withdrawn if they believe they were claimed in error or are no longer eligible and they can do this without penalty, so long as the Scottish Government has not told them about the error first or selected the holding for an inspection.
So now is the time to look over the acknowledgement letter(s) sent by the Scottish Government to make sure everything is in order. If you find any animals that should not now be claimed, you can write to your area office and request that an animal or animals be removed. For example, farmers might want to check that they have only claimed each animal once i.e. they have not submitted duplicate claims for any animals in error.
