Now is the time of greatest risk for heather beetle.
Heather beetle is a sporadic problem – devastating when you have an outbreak but often forgotten about afterwards. Our knowledge of the behaviour of the beetle is not good and as a result we do not yet have the answers on dealing with its impact. The Heather Trust are leading on trying to find practical management solutions but are hampered by lack of information coming from estates affected. Scottish Land & Estates support the Heather Trust in this work and strongly recommend that anyone who has an outbreak contacts http://www.heathertrust.co.uk/Heather+Beetle both for technical information and to fill in a survey form. It is only by gathering this information that The Heather Trust will be able to make a strong case to government to fund proper research into managing the problem. Even if you do not currently have an outbreak of heather beetle we suggest looking at the site to see exactly what to look for and to download a survey form.
