Prince of Wales Stresses Value of Countryside

Prince Charles has made a passionate statement in support of the countryside in the foreword for Country Life magazine to mark his 66th birthday. He states that he felt the majority of the population had lost connection with the land and it showed in their attitudes. The Prince of Wales expressed concern that many people did not understand the ‘delicately woven tapestry’ of the countryside which is facing unprecedented changes, and the value of farmers and their work must be appreciated. He recognised the contribution that agriculture and countryside management had to rural areas and the wider economy. Prince Charles has been a long standing champion of the sector and developed the Prince’s Countryside Fund in 2010 which has provided £4.4 million of grant funding to those managing the countryside.
