Bank of Scotland’s second annual Food and Drink market survey suggests the industry will continue to grow. The survey of over 100 Scottish food and drink businesses, shows growth into foreign exports and taking on new staff are on the agenda. 40% of respondents were planning to expand their export activities and, if the figures for plans to increase employment opportunities are extrapolated over the whole sector, we can expect to see the creation of 5600 jobs in the next five years.
The survey does show the sector has concerns though. Two thirds of respondents said the rising price of raw materials was a threat to their businesses. Other concerns were the rising cost of energy and extreme weather resulting in poor harvests.
