Successful Deer Management Event

Scottish Land & Estates, Lowland Deer Network Scotland (LDNS) and Buccleuch run a joint Walk & Talk event at Dalkeith Country Park to look at Lowland Deer Management on the Urban Fringe.  Around 50 guests listened to presentations from representatives of the organisations and Police Scotland with the focus on good practice.  Richard Cooke of LDNS pointed out that lowland deer management is about "managing a resource, opportunity and a threat."  But, the key message from the day was the need to work together and share ideas.  It has now been agreed that an e-network within the region will be formed to allow for easier sharing of information - with an ongoing annual event.  Given the interest in the topic, it has been decided that another event will be held in March 2015 in the South West (Ayrshire) to hopefully replicate this initiative.
