Earlier this week, representatives of the hydro power industry, including Scottish Land & Estates, met with Fergus Ewing MSP and Paul Wheelhouse MSP for a 2nd hydro summit. Fergus Ewing hosted the first industry summit in February this year where urgent concerns were expressed for the future of smallscale hydro in the face of FIT degression, grid connection issues and issues with regulation. This 2nd summit, reported back on the considerable efforts being made to address these issues. Despite the work the Scottish Government and the industry itself has put in in the intervening months, there remains sustained concern that degression of FIT in particular will have a dire effect of the future of hydro in Scotland. Progress with grid connection issues and with a more joined-up regulatory regime were more promising however.
