Review of Landlord Registration Published

The Scottish Government has published an Evaluation of the Impact and Operation of Landlord Registration in Scotland, which looks at the operational impact of the policy and legislative framework for landlord registration and the effectiveness of the associated administrative systems. The research indicates that the Landlord Registration Scheme has had some impact in meeting its goals of raising management standards in the private rented sector, with private sector landlords now more aware of their obligations. However, the research also suggests that landlord registration has not removed the 'worst' landlords from the sector.

The report includes a number of recommendations, including a request that the current legislative framework should be further tested before any legislative change is undertaken, and that any future legislative change should be consolidated into a meaningful raft of legislation rather than incremental change.

The report can be found here, and Research Findings, which provides a summary of the main findings and recommendations can be found here.
