Chalmers & Co Builds East Lothian's Biggest Architectural Practice

Alan Sheerin and Francis Ogilvy are delighted to announce the merger of their architectural practices under the Chalmers & Co banner.

"Being able to bring together Alan's vast experience and local knowledge from 30 years of practice in Haddington with Chalmers & Co's architectural team will allow us to provide our clients with a more efficient and inspirational design service on all types of projects," says David Brackenridge, Chartered Architect at Chalmers & Co.

“The timing is excellent as the property market is improving and developers are starting to return to the market.”

Alan Sheerin Associates is probably the best known firm of architects in the county. From his practice in Sidegate and previously whilst with RMJM in Edinburgh, chartered architect, Alan Sheerin, has worked on design projects including housing developments, medical centres, cinemas, and an overseas hotel and a conference centre in Libya. One of his housing projects won a Civic Trust Commendation when he was working for East Lothian Council.

Alan Sheerin says: “I am enjoying working with Francis, David and the rest of the architectural team, and want to continue promoting quality architectural design across East Lothian.”

Established in 2002 under Eric Miller, Chalmers & Co’s architectural team has grown under chartered architect David Brackenridge. The practice has recently been particularly busy with house extensions and refurbishments, agricultural buildings and steading redevelopments. They designed the award-winning Dunbar Community Bakery.

David previously worked for Aberdeen City Council, Burnett Pollock Associates in Edinburgh and for upmarket East Lothian property developer, Dunglass Ltd, prior to joining Chalmers & Co.
David Brackenridge continues:

“We have complementary client bases and experience, and always aim to provide a high level of service and care to our clients; with a larger technical team in house and a very strong network of local contacts, we’ll be able to offer clients of both businesses an even better level of service than currently. Chalmers & Co can also provide complementary professional valuation, management, letting and estate agency services.

“I very much look forward to working with Alan and Steven as they have extensive experience and a keen eye for practical, quality architecture.”
