The Scottish Forum on Natural Capital was launched in November 2013 at the World Forum held in Edinburgh and this week saw the first group of members sign up to the new initiative.
The Scottish Forum on Natural Capital is a new project bringing together public, private and voluntary sector organisations to protect and rebuild Scotland’s natural capital. The Forum will enable businesses and policy makers to make informed decisions about their impact on the environment, to assess the financial and other benefits they obtain from Scotland’s natural capital, and to make a concerted effort to protect it.
Scottish Land & Estates is involved because this whole area revolves around finding new ways of valuing and paying for the delivery of public goods from private land. It has the potential to open up new mechanisms that will influence land manager decision making and potentially to change the way that we conservation nature.
