We will all remember the late snowfall last year which saw us asking members for help in providing all-weather vehicles to transport feed to animals or locate those missing.
We are now working with Scottish Government to set up a more formal list of members who are able to help which we will hold in the event of such circumstances befalling us in future.
This list would be made available only during an emergency. The idea this time would be to speed up the process by providing affected farmers with contact details of those nearby who may be able to help – rather than us and Scottish Government acting as the ‘middle man’ as we did last year.
In order to undertake this work, we are approaching all members to ask that should you have all-weather tracked vehicles you provide us with the following details:-
- A contact name
- A contact telephone number
- Your full address
- Available vehicles – make and model (Scottish Government have specifically highlighted an interest in Marookas and Hagglunds – but please send through details of any all- weather vehicles)
- If you would – potentially - be able to transport the vehicle during an emergency (Scottish Government are also currently looking into the possibility of using hauliers where necessary to transport tracked vehicles during emergency situations)
- Cost of vehicle hire per day
By agreeing to be part of this list you are NOT committing yourself to providing the vehicle – it may well be that when required, you need it for another purpose.
Final details regarding payment for hire / transport etc will be provided prior to completion of the list.
