Growth in renewables employment

A report published by Scottish Renewables earlier this week reveals a 5 per cent growth in employment in companies involved in all types of renewable energy production across Scotland.  The report shows that more than 540 Scottish-based firms now employ a total of at least 11,695 people.  Just over half (54%) in the Central Belt, 17% in the Highlands and Islands and 14% in the North East.  Joss Blamire, Senior Policy Manager, with Scottish Renewables, said: “These latest figures show the renewables industry has seen steady growth in the number of people being employed, despite an uncertain year. The statistics represented a higher rate of growth in employment compared to the Scottish economy as a whole.”  The report also shows many companies are planning to increase their workforce in the next year.
