Scottish Land & Estates Commends Rural Affairs Announcements

SCOTTISH LAND & ESTATES COMMENDS RURAL AFFAIRS ANNOUNCEMENTSScottish Land & Estates has released the following response to today’s announcements by Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs Richard Lochhead regarding a new advisory group on farming and forestry and the extension of the farm woodlands leasing programme:

Dr Andrew Midgley, Senior Policy Officer at Scottish Land & Estates commented:

“Scottish Land & Estates commends the establishment of the forestry and farming advisory group and we look forward to playing as active a role as possible in its work.  Moves to remove the division between forestry and farming are always positive and indeed many of our members already successfully practise integrated farm and forestry management.

“With regard to the farm woodlands leasing programme extension, we certainly support this and hope it will be successful in providing opportunities for both owner occupiers and tenant farmers.  We are also aware of the technical leasing issues identified in this area via the Tenant Farmers’ Forum and are committed to helping resolve these”.
